Stuffed Purse Collection
Our Women of Steel committee will be collecting gently used purses stuffed with toiletry items to benefit sisters impacted by Hurricane Sandy and other tragedies. Contributions will be accepted at the USW International Women’s Conference registration on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 2-6 p.m. and Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
The purses should be stuffed with items like shampoo, lotion, makeup, feminine products, toothpaste, or other basic hygiene products.

Go Red for Women on February 14th
On Thursday, February 14, 2013, we would like our WOS and all local 3657 staff to wear red and black to bring awareness to two causes, Go Red for Women (red), which creates an awareness around heart disease in women, and One Billion Rising (red and black), a global movement that raises awareness and combats violence against women.

Eighteen years ago, as a single parent struggling to make ends meet, Alan White landed a job at a foundry in Buffalo, New York. The pay was great. He thought he was set. Three years ago, he went to a doctor and after a series of tests was told that he will die from exposure to silica in his workplace.

Local 3657 Members tell Tim Murphy: Jobs Not Cuts
Yesterday, working families across the U.S. called on their representatives to reject benefit cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid; close tax loopholes for the richest two percent; and cancel sequestration. Members from 3657 joined union activists from across Pittsburgh, braving the ice, sleet and snow, to take that message to Representative Tim Murphy’s office. January 2013 President’s Report
Local 3657 is starting the year ready for action. Earlier this month we mailed an annual report to every member’s home, outlining our accomplishments from 2012 and laying out some of our key challenges and priorities for 2013. Some of those key priorities are:
- Starting in as soon as possible, we will be holding regular brown-bag lunches hosted by various committees of our Local giving them an opportunity to give presentations on their work, solicit help in important projects, or facilitate discussions on topics that are important to us. Continue reading
