USW Local 3657 Bake Sale for Post-Gazette Striker Fund a Success

The Pi Day bake sale held on March 14 to benefit striking Pittsburgh Post-Gazette workers was a resounding success, with sales totaling more than double the original fundraising goal of $2,000.

Members of USW Local 3657 planned, staffed and baked for the sale, which took place at the USW headquarters building in Pittsburgh. Dozens of bakers and volunteers also came from other labor organizations and community groups.

USW Local 3657 would like to thank our own members who donated baked goods and volunteered their time and efforts toward the sale. We’d also like to thank the various other labor organizations and community groups that donated or volunteered, including:

There are a number of ways we can continue to show solidarity and support for the strikers:

  • Donate to the strike fund here.
  • Subscribe to the Pittsburgh Union Progress, published by the striking workers of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
  • Cancel your subscription to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette until the labor disputes are resolved.

Communication
Committee Report

The communications committee would like to make sure all of our members, including the ones in the field, are able to successfully watch the live stream of the meetings. However, a majority of our offices in the field have slow internet and some staff may have slower machines so if you find that you are having difficulty watching the meetings LIVE you will have the ability to watch the recording once the meeting is complete. Just visit http://www.uswlocal3657.org and open the story for this month’s membership meeting. As always if you have questions about the live streaming, please contact a member of the communications committee.

Also, the local has launched a closed Facebook group that all members can join. Search for USW Local Union 3657. This will be a place to share information in a quick and easy way! Not sure how to join Facebook or join a group? Contact Mollie Relihan at mrelihan@usw.org or 412-562-4345.”
