HSE Committee Report

February 2015

Tuesday, February 24, 2015:  fumes in the HQ building

At 9:00 AM the lobby smelled like diesel. It was probably from a furniture delivery truck that idled at the loading dock. We need to remind the garage attendants, Matt Becker and the International of the 5 minute limit on idling enacted by Allegheny County in 2010.

Wednesday, February 25, 2015: accessibility issues in the HQ building

A letter was sent from the HSE Committee recapping our efforts to improve accessibility for restrooms, ramps and doorways throughout the Headquarters building. We will keep revisiting this until we see some improvements. Our next communication will give them a deadline after which we will schedule our outside ADA evaluator to come in for a tour.

Rapid Response

Committee Report

Please sign any online petition or sign any letter that opposes current FAST TRACK legislation !!!

This legislation, FAST TRACK trade authority cuts out Congress from the negotiating process, limiting its ability to influence decisions that will have real and significant impacts throughout our state and nation. It will send more of our jobs overseas.

It is time for a new approach to trade where we all can benefit.  Unfortunately the current FAST TRACK proposal does not achieve that goal.  We strongly urge our members to oppose FAST TRACK !

By-Laws Report

By-Laws

Committee Report

The by-laws committee met this week and discussed a few potential changes to the by-laws based on the survey results. These changes include, but are not limited to;

  • Updating the language outlined for International Convention Delegates, as well as researching the constitutionality of changing said language.
  • Possibly eliminating compensation for executive board members, as well as determining whether or not the desire for such a change exists.
  • Updating the language prohibiting communist membership and any other such outdated language.

The by-laws committee would like to have input from the membership regarding these or any other possible changes, prior to the changes being formally introduced and read. If anyone has any issues with the by-laws as currently written (a copy can be downloaded through the local website) please contact John Lepley or Joshua Keirsey.
